Women Against Violence, a non-profit program is dedicated to recognizing abuse against women of all ages. The statistics on abuse against young women is staggering, and it is estimated that 1/3 of all teenage girls are involved in an abusive dating relationship. There are some warning signs that you can look for.
You should be concerned if your daughter is:
increasingly distant from family and friends
has unexplained injuries or the explanation is not logical
has lost interest in school
moody or depressed
suddenly uninterested in her appearance
involved with someone you have seen be verbally or physically abusive
involved with someone with a violent temper
involved with someone who calls constantly and is possessive of her
If you suspect she might be in an abusive relationship, you should talk with your daughter immediately and call someone such as the police or a domestic violence program or hotline for assistance.
